Rainforest

שוב הגיע הרגע המרגש הזה - הקולקציה החדשה שעבדתי עליה במשך החודשים האחרונים יוצאת לאוויר העולם.

בדרך כלל בחירת שם הקולקציה הוא השלב האחרון בתהליך העבודה, אבל הפעם ההתחלה היתה דווקא הפוכה. השם היה הדבר הראשון שקפץ לי לראש - RAINFOREST ומיד בעקבותיו אימאג׳ של יער ירוק, סבוך וקסום עשיר בדימויים.

It's that unbelievably exciting moment again when my new collection, that I've been working on for months is finally coming out into the world.

Usually picking the collection's name is the final step I the work process but this time it was the other way around. the name was actually the very first thing that jumped into my head - RAINFOREST followed immediately by a clear image of a green forest, all tangled and magical and rich with imageries.

אני תמיד נהנית לעצב קולקציה חדשה, אבל הפעם יצא שבחרתי נושא שפשוט סחף וריגש אותי,
נהניתי לחקור את הנושא ולהתעסק בחומרים מיוחדים, צבעוניים ועשירים בטקסטורה.

I always enjoy designing a new collection, but this time, as it turned out, I'd chosen a theme that simply excited and thrilled me. I loved diving in to the subject matter and dealing with unique, colorful and textured materials.

בתחילת התהליך בניתי לי לוח השראה. חיפשתי אימאג׳ים של יערות רחוקים והפלגתי על גבי פינטרסט אל מחוזות חדשים.
הוא קיבל את פני בכל בוקר כשהגעתי לסטודיו והכניס אותי למצב רוח עיצובי. על הלוח אספתי מלבד תמונות גם דוגמאות לחומרים והרכבתי את הפלטה הצבעונית השולטת בקולקציה - שהיא כמתבקש ירוקה מאוד, עם נגיעות של צבעים נוספים.

I first started out with building an inspiration board. I searched and searched for images of far away forests and turned every Pinterest stone. the board greeted me each and every morning as I reached the studio and put in that ever elusive design mood. Besides pictures, I also pinned different materials I found and the collection's color pallet - mostly different shades of green (no surprises here) with touched of other accent colors.

הקולקציה מתחלקת לשלוש סדרות עיקריות.
הסדרה הראשונה מושפעת מהבוטניקה של יערות הגשם. הוקסמתי מהגרפיות של העלים והצמחים הטרופיים ויצרתי תכשיטים בצורת עלים ושרכים שונים.

The collection is divided into three main lines.

the first is inspired the botanical elements hiding away in the rainforests. I was completely blown away by graphic nature of the different leaves and tropical plants and created leaf and fern-like pieces.

This is not my life forever

הסדרה השניה עוצבה בהשראת עולם החי העשיר ביערות - ציפורים אקזוטיות, חרקים ועוד.

The second line is inspired by the rich wildlife in the forests - including exotic birds of all kinds, insects and more.

עושר אינסופי של דימויים הציף אותי סביב יערות הגשם. לאט לאט התחלתי לחשוב על שבטים נידחים שחיים ביערות אלה ומתוך המחשבה על האסתטיקה השבטית נולדה סדרה נוספת של תכשיטים צבעוניים יותר, שמשלבים חומרים שונים ומעוצבים בסגנון גאומטרי פרימיטיבי.

I found myself flooded with an unbelievable array of imageries. I started to slowly think about far away tribes living inside the rainforests and from that tribal asthetics another line was born, including more colorful pieces, mixing materials and combining both geometric and primitive styles.

5 books you need on your shelf

אמנם אנחנו כבר רגילים לקרוא ולחפש השראה באינטרנט ובמדיות הדיגיטליות (שמתעדכנות לפני שאנחנו בכלל מספיקים למצמץ) אבל מבחינתי- אין תחליף לספרים אמיתיים (לא רק מתחום העיצוב), כאלה עם כריכה יפה וריח של דפוס. לאורך השנים, טיפחתי אוסף מכובד של ספרים, שנותנים לי השראה ועושים טוב על הנשמה. לרגל שבוע הספר, אשר חל בימים אלו, החלטתי להכיר לכם 5 ספרים שווים במיוחד.

Although we've gotten used to reading and searching for inspiration online and through digital media (that gets updated before we even blink), as far as I'm concerned, there's no substitute for real books. They don't have to be design books at all but they have to be real- with the smell of printing and stunning covers to look at. Through the years, I've collected beautiful books that have been inspiring me and do good for my soul. Book Week, which starts this week in Isarel, is a great opportunity to introduce you to five books you absolutely need on your bookshelf. 

A Beautiful Mess Happy Handmade Home

הספר של אלסי לארסון ואמה צ'פמן, מהבלוג האהוב "A Beautiful Mess", מהווה כניסה לעולמן הצבעוני והמעוצב של השתיים. אלסי ואמה הן אחיות, אשר שיפצו ועיצבו יחד את הבתים הראשונים שלהן, עם תקציב מוגבל אך עם הרבה דמיון ותעוזה. בספר הן מלמדות איך לשפץ, לצבוע ולקשט פרוייקטים שונים בבית והכל בכתיבה קולחת ואופטימית ובסגנון מודרני, בדיוק כמו בבלוג שלהן.

This book, written by Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman (from "A Beautiful Mess") is a peek into their colorful and designed worlds. Elsie and Emma are sisters, who renovated and designed their first homes together, with a small budget but with tons of imagination and a bit of spunk. In their book, they teach how to renovate, paint and decorate different projects, using their flowing and optimistic writing and a modern style, just the same vibe you can fins in their blog.

הספר נכתב ע"י הולי בקר, המייסדת של הבלוג המוערך "Decor8" וג'ואנה קופסטיק, כותבת בתחום הלייפסטייל. הספר משלב בין תמונות-השראה יפות והסברים פשוטים שמעניקים מוטיבציה להתחיל לעצב ובאמצעותו ניתן להגיע לתוצאות מדהימות. לכל מי שמחפש להפוך את הבית שלו לחלל מסוגנן ומלוטש, הספר הזה הוא מקום נהדר להתחיל ממנו וספר נפלא לשים על המדף לשנים רבות.

DIY Furniture 2

"DIY Furniture2" של כריסטופר סטוארט, ממשיך את הקו העיצובי של קודמו, אשר זכה להצלחה בינלאומית. הספר מכיל שלושים עיצובים חדשים והוא מסביר שלב-אחר-שלב איך לבנות בעצמך רהיטים בדרגות קושי שונות ובשלל סגנונות, מאובייקטים קונספטואליים לכאלה עם קו יותר מודרני ומובחן. הספר מציג את תהליך העבודה באמצעות דיאגרמות והסברים ברורים ומפנה את הקוראים להשתמש בחומרים נגישים, אשר ניתן למצוא בכל חנות מקומית לחומרי בנייה. ספר-הבנייה הזה, על שלל העיצובים שבתוכו, גרם לי לחשוב על חומרי עבודה בצורה אחרת ממה שחשבתי עד כה...

"DIY Furniture2" by Cristopher Stuart continues the design style of his predecessor, which gained international success. The book features 30 new designs and explains step-by-step how to build your own furniture in different levels of difficulty and in a variety of styles, from conceptual objects to modern (and more distinct) designs. The book demonstrates the construction process through diagrams and easy-to-follow instructions and uses available materials you can find at your local hardware store. This construction-book, with the variety of designs it offers, made me think differently about common materials and how to use them in a whole new way...  

Oh Joy!

This book was written by Oh, Joy (Joy Cho), a blogger and Pinterest-Sensation. Joy created an abundant source of creative ideas and shows her readers how to add style, color and taste to their lives through quick, easy and fun projects, using her colorful, lively and unique aesthetics you can also find in her blog posts.

URBAN DIMENSIONS

לפני לא מעט שנים, כשחזרתי מהטיול הגדול של אחרי הצבא, היה לי ברור שאני הולכת ללמוד ארכיטקטורה. התקבלתי לבצלאל והתכוונתי להתחיל ללמוד בירושלים.

רגע לפני תחילת הלימודים שיניתי את דעתי והחלטתי ללכת ללמוד עיצוב תעשיתי.

הלימודים במחלקה לעיצוב תעשיתי היו מרתקים ונתנו לי כלים חשובים שבהמשך איפשרו לי למצוא את הייחוד שלי כמעצבת תכשיטים, אבל בלב נשארה לי פינה חמה לארכיטקטורה.

A few years back, after I returned from my big trip around the world following my army duty period, it was clear to me that I'm going to start studying architecture. I was accepted to one of the best universities (Betzalel School in the Hebrew University) and planned to move to Jerusalem. 

In the last minute I changed my mind and switched to Industrial Design. 

These were fascinating years in the Department of Industrial Design at HIT (HOLON), and they gave me so many important tools which later on assisted me in finding my unique niche as a jewelry designer. But in my heart I always have a special spot for architecture.

את קולקציית החורף הנוכחית החלטתי להקדיש לארכיטקטורה. 

מאז ומתמיד נמשכתי לקווים ישרים ולגיאומטריה ודיוק והפעם המשיכה הזאת גובשה לקונספט שלם שמחבר את הקולקציה.

I decided to dedicate my new collection for 2015 to the theme of architecture.

I have always been attracted to fine lines and exact geometry and now this attraction has become a whole concept that connects all parts of the collection.

הקולקציה נקראת URBAN DIMENSIONS ובתוכה ישנן סדרות שמתייחסות לסגנונות ארכיטקטוניים ולאלמנטים עיצוביים בארכיטקטורה של ערים שונות.

הסדרה הראשונה מוקדשת לעיר שבה אני חיה - תל אביב. עיר מרתקת ועשירה בסגנונות. אחד הסגנונות החשובים באדריכלות של העיר הזאת הוא הבאוהאוס. 

באוהאוס הוא שמו של בית ספר לאדריכלות שפעל בגרמניה ובו התחנכו אדריכלים שפיתחו את הסגנון הבינלאומי המזוהה עם תל אביב של שנות ה-30. 

באזורים מסוימים של תל אביב ישנו ריכוז גדול מאוד של מבנים שנבנו בסגנון הבינלאומי ומסיבה זאת היא מכונה "העיר הלבנה" והוכרזה ע"י אונסק"ו בשנת 2003 כאתר מורשת עולמית.

The collection is called URBAN DIMENSIONS and within it you can find series that relate to architectural currents and specific design elements in architecture of different cities. 

The 1st series is dedicated to the city I live in - Tel Aviv, a fascinating city rich with different architectural styles, among the most important ones is the Bauhaus.

Bauhaus is the name of a school for architecture that operated in Germany and educated young architects who developed the international style which characterizes Tel Aviv of the 1930's.
In some parts of the city one can find a large number of Bauhaus buildings and this is the reason it was named "The White City" and declared by UNESCO in 2003 as a world heritage sight.

סדרה נוספת מוקדשת לעיר האהובה עלי בעולם - ניו יורק. עיר ללא הפסקה עם ארכיטקטורה שעוצרת את הנשימה בכל פעם שמרימים את הראש למעלה. המוני גורדי השחקים של מנהטן, ריבוי ריבועי החלונות וסגנון האר- דקו, הם שהיוו השראה לסדרה זו.

Another series is dedicated to my favorite city in the world - New York. A city that never stops with architectural buildings that take your breath away every time you lift your head up. The endless skyscrapers of Manhattan, countless glass windows and the Art Deco current were the inspiration for this series.

עיר נוספת שיוצא לי לבקר בה הרבה בשנים האחרונות היא פריז. התכשיטים שלי נמכרים בלא מעט בוטיקים פריזאיים ובשנים האחרונות אני משקיעה מחשבה בעיצוב גם ללקוחה הפריזאית.

הביטוי לזה בקולקציה הזאת הגיע בדמות סדרה של שרשראות שמעוצבות ע"פ קו הרקיע של פריז שאליו התווסף גם קו הרקיע של תל אביב.

Another city that I have visited frequently lately is Paris. My jewelry is sold in many Parisian boutiques and in the last few years I have invested much thought in designing jewelry for Parisian customers. 

This is reflected in the new collection in the form of a series of necklaces and bracelets that display the Parisian skyline, to which I added pieces that depict the skyline of Tel Aviv.

סדרה נוספת נוצרה בהתייחסות לארכיטקטורה של גשרים בכלל ולעבודתו של האדריכל סנטיאגו קלטרווה בפרט, שידוע בגשרי המיתרים שלו. יש בה גם תכשיטים ששואבים השראה מקונסטרוקציות של מבנים מורכבים.

Another series was created in reference to bridges, highlighting the work of Architect Santiago Calatrava, well-known for his chords bridges. It also includes jewelry inspired by constructions of complex buildings.

בכל קולקציה שאני מעצבת חשוב לי מאוד לחדש ולשמור על מקוריות גם בתחום העיצוב וגם בשימוש בחומרים ובטכניקות. החידוש המשמעותי מבחינתי בקולקציה הנוכחית הוא שימוש בחומר חדש מעולם שלכאורה מנוגד לעולם התכשיטנות והוא עולם הבניה. 

יצרתי תערובת של חומרים מעולם הבניה ושילבתי אותה עם המתכות של התכשיטים והתוצאה היא אחת הסדרות האהובות עלי בקולקציה זאת - סדרה שמתייחסת למרצפות המעוטרות של יפו ושל ברצלונה.

With every collection that I design, it is very important to me to come up with new and original designs and to use new materials and techniques. The innovation in this collection from my point of view is the use of a new material that comes from the world of construction, a world that supposedly contradicts the world of jewelry.

I created a compound of materials from the world of construction and combined it with the jewelry metals. The outcome is one of my favorite series in the collection, which resembles the decorated tiles of Jaffa and Barcelona.

לקראת סוף עבודת העיצוב התפנתי לחשוב גם על הדרך בה אציג את הקולקציה, על צילומי הקטלוג. על אף שאת הקטלוגים האחרונים צילמנו בסטודיו, היה ברור שאת הקולקציה הזאת צריך לצלם בצילומי חוץ. הלוקיישן שנבחר הוא הכיכר הלבנה של האדריכל דני קרוון. הקווים הישרים, הלבן הבוהק והמבנה המרהיב היו רקע מושלם לקולקציה והצטלמו נפלא תחת עינו המיומנת של הצלם שלי - זיו שדה.

Towards the final stages of the design process I started to think of how I would present the collection and shoot the catalog. Although the previous collections were shot inside the studio, it was clear to me that this collection had to be shot outdoors. 

The location I selected is "The White Square", designed by sculptor Dani Karavan. The sharp lines, the bright white color and the impressive geometric shapes created the perfect background for the collection and were professionally caught in the lense of my experienced photographer - Ziv Sade.

טאץ' אחרון ניתן גם לצילומי התכשיטים באתר, ובמקום רקע העץ עליו הם מצולמים בדר"כ, החלטתי הפעם לצלמם על רקע של בטון, כיאה לתכשיטים שנעשו בהשראת בניה ואדריכלות.

The last touch was also added to the images of the jewelry in my website, and instead of the wooden background I usually use, I decided to shoot them on cement background, to complement the inspiration of construction and architecture.
