Stacking 101

אני אוהבת אופנה, אוהבת להתלבש ומשתדלת להגיע לעבודה מוקפדת ומעודכנת. כמובן שבתור מעצבת תכשיטים, יש לי תמיד גם אקססוריז מתאימים :)
אפשר להגיד שבדרך כלל סגנון הלבוש שלי הוא די מינימליסטי. אני אוהבת בגדי בייסיק מוקפדים לצד תכשיט בודד שמשדרג אותם.
אבל יש ימים שבא לי לצאת קצת מהסטייל הרגיל וליצור מראה אופנתי עם נוכחות. אחת הדרכים האהובות עלי ליצירת מראה כזה עם תכשיטים היא באמצעות סטאקינג.
טרם הצלחתי למצוא מילה מדויקת בעברית לסטאקינג, אבל הכוונה היא לשכבות או "ערמות" של תכשיטים מאותו סוג שנענדים יחד.
אני מאוד אוהבת לשלב מספר שרשראות, צמידים או טבעות יחד וחשבתי לתת לכן את הטיפים שלי לסטאקינג נכון.

I love fashion, love getting dressed in the morning and always try to make sure It's current. As a jewelry designer, I'm sure it won't come as a shock that I also always have the accessories to match :)

Yet you could say that normally my style is quite minimal. I absolutely love put-together basics with a single accessory to give it that extra touch.

But some days I feel like stepping away from my usual getups and create a look with lots of presence. One of my favorite ways to achieve that is by stacking.

Since I like to layer so much, I thought it might be a good idea to share my tips on how to stack and show everyone your fashion flair.

כשאני בוחרת לענוד כמה שרשראות יחד, אני אוהבת ללכת על שרשראות עדינות כדי לא לייצר עומס מוגזם. צריך כמובן לבחור בשרשראות באורכים שונים עם תליונים קטנים ועדינים שמדברים באותה השפה. כדי ליצור יותר עניין, אפשר גם לגוון בטקסטורות של השרשראות עצמן.

Necklaces
When I stack necklaces, I usually opt for the more delicate, dainty ones so that they don't create a cluttered look. Choose different length necklaces of course, with small pendants that relate to one another. Want to amp things up? create more diversity with different necklace textures.

למרות שבאופן טבעי אני בוחרת את הפריטים העדינים, אפשר בהחלט גם לענוד שרשראות גדולות יחד. צריך רק לוודא שהן עובדות אחת עם השניה (אני אוהבת לבחור שרשראות מאותה סדרה אבל לא זהות לגמרי) ושהמראה הכללי שנוצר לא אגרסיבי מידי.

Even though I usually go for the more delicate items, you can absolutely layer larger items too. Just make sure they work well together (personally I like to pick two necklaces from the same family that aren't completely identical ) and that the overall look isn't too in-your-face.

צמידים
בצמידים אני אוהבת ללכת בגדול. אם מתחשק לי ליצור מראה בוהמייני אני בוחרת בצמידים צבעוניים ומשלבת כמה צבעים יחד כדי ליצור מראה נוכח במיוחד.

Bracelets

With bracelets I like to go big. If I feel like the Boho look I choose colorful bracelets and mix them up to create an undeniable presence.

אם אני בוחרת בכמה צמידים מאותו סוג אדאג שיהיו בעוביים שונים כדי שלא יתקבל מראה שחוזר על עצמו. כשאני בוחרת בשילוב של צמידים עבים אלך בדרך כלל עם לא יותר משלושה בו זמנית. יותר מזה עלול להראות מעט מלאכותי, כאילו ניסיתי לחקות קטלוג אופנה.

If I happen to pick two identical bracelets, I'll try and make sure they aren't the same width so I won't look repetitive. When combining wider bracelets or cuffs, I'll usually wear no more than three at a time. Anymore will look like I'm trying to copy what I saw in magazine editorials.

כשאני בוחרת בצמידים דקיקים אני הולכת עם הרבה מהם יחד, חמישה, שישה או אפילו שבעה צמידים עדינים משתלבים נפלא.

Another thing I really like to do is create a mix between different kinds of materials - metals, ropes, textile or leather can really upgrade one another. Also, when I pick thin bracelets I always wear loads of them together, five, six or even seven delicate bracelets go great together.

טבעות

עם טבעות אפשר לעשות סטאקינג בשתי דרכים - או לענוד מספר טבעות על אותה אצבע או לענוד טבעת על כל אחת מהאצבעות.

שתי הדרכים מגניבות בעיני. ברור שהבחירה באצבע אחת היא סולידית יותר והבחירה בהרבה טבעות על הרבה אצבעות יוצרת מראה מגניב במיוחד.

Rings

With rings there are two basic ways to stack - you can either wear several rings on one finger or you can wear one on each of your fingers. Both are tré cool. Of course several rings - one finger is more conservative than the multiple rings - multiple fingers way.

כשאני משלבת טבעות אני אוהבת לשמור על צבע אחיד (רק זהב או רק כסף) ולגוון בעיצוב ובאבנים המשובצות. שיבוץ של אבן שחורה הוא הפייבוריט שלי בימים אלה.

When I stack rings I like to keep to the same color (Just gold or just silver) and mix it up with different styles and stone colors. By the way, black stone setting just happens to be my favorite these days.

דווקא בטבעות, בגלל שהן קטנות, אפשר להשתולל עם הסגנונות - רומנטי הולך עם גיאומטרי ושיבוצי אבנים הולכים נהדר עם טבעות חלקות.

When it comes to rings, them being so small and all, you can really go wild with styles and designs - a romantic ring goes just great with a geometric one and stones work wonderful with smooth bands.

I've been literally planning and dreaming about this new line for years. It took a long time to grow into its own cohesive, clean, geometric, classic yet contemporary jewelry line, made entirely of solid gold and set with diamonds.

For years I've been getting requests to design wedding rings: "My girlfriend loves your pieces so much and so I wanted to propose to her with a ring you designed". When I first started out, I could actually comply to these requests, and so some of my loyal customers have been wearing my custom made rings, made especially for them for years now. But, as time passed, the workload became so great that it didn't allow me to individually design engagement rings anymore. Still, it was clear to me that I had to find a way to be there for my customers in special moments like these too.

כשבחרתי את טבעות הנישואין הפרטיות של אביב ושלי היה ברור שזה רק עניין של זמן עד שאעצב טבעות מזהב בעצמי. זה כבר דגדג לי באצבעות באופן הכי מוחשי שאפשר.

When I picked out mine and Aviv's wedding bands it was clear to me that it was only a matter of time till I start designing gold rings. So I enlisted Michal, my studio manager, who's a Bezalel Jewelry Design graduate and together we officially started to create the new gold line.

I also decided the new gold rings had to have their own uniquely designed box, so when you order one it will arrive in this beautiful velvet one. You already know me by now, the content of the box isn't the only thing that has to look just right...

We create every ring individually per order and during the last couple of weeks we've already had the privilege of creating a number of rings for some lucky brides or rather some excited looking guys getting ready for the big proposal, and I must admit I find it really moving.

An unforgettable day with Etsy on Nasdaq

אם היו אומרים לי לפני כמה שנים שאמכור את העיצובים שלי בטיימס סקוור לא הייתי מאמינה. אם היו אומרים לי שאעמוד על הבמה בטקס צלצול הפעמון בנאסד"ק, גם לא הייתי מאמינה. מצד שני, גם לא הייתי מאמינה שיהיו לי חנויות משלי, או שאמכור ללקוחות בכל העולם - וזה קרה.

הרומן שלי עם אטסי החל לפני כ-6 שנים. כמה חודשים קודם לכן סיימתי את לימודי העיצוב התעשייתי, ומכרתי את תכשיטים שעיצבתי ויצרתי בסלון הבית שלי. בביקור אצל אחותי, שהתגוררה אז עם משפחתה בניו יורק הזדמן לי להגיע ליריד מעצבים מקומי. אחת המעצבות סיפרה לי על אתר חדש ומגניב בשם ETSY שמאפשר ליוצרים בכל העולם למכור את הפריטים שלהם. חזרתי הביתה, נכנסתי לאתר והתאהבתי.

If anyone would have told me a few years ago that I would sell my designs in Times Square, I wouldn't have believed it. If I was told that I would be standing on the podium in Nasdaq's bell-ringing ceremony, I wouldn't have believed that either. On the other hand, I wouldn't have believed that I would have my own shops, or that I would sell to customers all across the world - and that actually happened. 

My affair with Etsy started about 6 years ago. A few months earlier I had just graduated with an Industrial Design degree, and I was selling the jewelry which I designed and created in my living room.

When I was visiting my sister who then lived with her family in NY, I happened to visit a local designers' market. One of the designers told me about a cool new website called Etsy, which allows designers across the world to sell their goods. I went back home, checked it online and fell in love.

מאז, הדברים החלו להתגלגל בקצב מסחרר. כשחזרתי לארץ צילמתי את הפריטים (בחדר הרחצה בדירה, שבו היתה תאורה טבעית מעולה) ופתחתי את החנות שלי. ההזמנות החלו לזרום לאט לאט אבל לאחר כחודש, פתאום הופיעו תוך יום אחד כ-200 הזמנות חדשות בחנות שלי. גיליתי, שתמונה של זוג עגילים הופיעה בבלוג מצליח. מאז ההזמנות לא הפסיקו להכנס. עם הזמן, כדי לעמוד בביקוש, נאלצתי להעסיק חברה שעזרה לי ובהמשך לעבור גם לסטודיו הראשון שלי. המשכתי להשקיע בעיצוב, בצילום בשירות וביחס ללקוחות - וההשקעה השתלמה. עד היום נמכרו כבר למעלה מ-15,000 פריטים בחנות שלי. העסק כמובן גדל והתפתח, היום יש לי סטודיו גדול עם מערך של עובדים מדהימים, חנויות וגם מכירות ברחבי העולם. אבל אטסי היה ועודנו חלק בלתי נפרד מההצלחה.

לפני מספר שבועות קיבלתי הודעה מפתיעה בתיבת ההודעות שלי באתר - "האם תרצי להשתתף באירוע שאנחנו מקיימים באמצע אפריל"? הפרטים היו עדיין בסוד, אבל התשובה שלי כמובן היתה - כן!
ככל שהתקרב מועד האירוע נחשפו עוד פרטים. אטסי עמדה בפני מעמד מרגש במיוחד - הנפקה ראשונה בבורסת הנאסד"ק בניו יורק. במסגרת האירוע הוזמנו מספר מצומצם של מעצבים ויוצרים המוכרים באתר לקחת חלק בטקס צלצול הפעמון המסורתי בבניין הנאסד"ק וכן במכירה מיוחדת שנערכה ממש מחוץ לבניין, בלב טיימס סקוור.

בזמן הקצר שעמד לרשותנו הכנו וארזנו עשרות פריטים שנשלחו במשלוח מיוחד למכירה, עיצבנו את הדוכן מול חברת ההפקה המקומית ובעיקר - התחלנו להתרגש. בגלל סודיות העניין לא יכלתי לשתף אף אחד בסיבת הנסיעה וכך נאלצתי לנצור את ההתלהבות, כשכל מה שרציתי לעשות זה לצעוק: "אני נוסעת לניו יורק! לבקר באטסי! למכור בטיימס סקוור! לצלצל בפעמון בנאסד"ק בשידור חי מול כל העולם"!

Since then, things started rolling in fast motion. When I returned to Israel, I photographed the items (in my bathroom, which had the perfect natural lighting) and opened my shop. The orders started rolling in slowly but after a month or so, all of a sudden I saw 200 new orders. I found out that one of my earrings were posted in a good blog. Since then the orders kept coming. As time went by I had to bring in a friend to help me and later move in to my first studio. I kept on investing in design, in high quality photos and good customer service - and the investment paid off. Up until today more than 15,000 items have been sold in my shop. My business grew and flourished, I now have a big studio with an amazing crew of employees,4 brick & mortar shops and a lot of international sales. But Etsy was and will be an inseparable part of my success.  

A few weeks ago I got a surprising message in my Etsy inbox - "would you like to participate in an event we are planning in mid-April?" The details were still confidential, but my answer was definitely - YES! 

As we got closer to the date more details were revealed. Etsy was facing a super exciting event - its initial public offering on Nasdaq stock market in NY. Etsy invited a limited no. of designers who sell on the site to take part in the traditional bell-ringing ceremony in Nasdaq and in a special street sale that happened right outside the building, in the heart of Times Square. 

In the short time we had, we packed many items that were shipped express for the sale, we designed the booth with the local production team, and most of all - started getting excited. Due to the confidentiality of the event I couldn't share the cause for my trip with anyone, and so I had to hide my excitement when all I wanted to do is yell: "I'm going to NY! To visit Etsy! To sell in Times Square! To ring the bell in Nasdaq in live broadcast in front of the whole world!"

לפני מספר ימים עליתי על מטוס יחד עם ענת, אחותי (שאחראית על המכירות והשיווק לחו"ל ועל הקשר מול אטסי) ועם אלה האחיינית שלי בת ה-14 שהצטרפה לעזור ולבלות ונחתתי בניו-יורק.
היום שלפני האירוע הוקדש להיכרות והכנה. הגענו למשרדים של אטסי בשכונת דמבו בברוקלין וכן - הם נראים בדיוק כפי שאתם מדמיינים. שולחן הקבלה בכניסה הוא למעשה יצירת אמנות שעשויה כולה משאריות פסולת. צינורות האוורור עטופים בסריגת צמר צבעונית. בכל פינה יש יצירות אמנות, ציורי קיר, עבודות טלאים ועוד. העובדים יושבים בחלל פתוח ענק, אבל השקט והאווירה הנעימה נשמרים היות והם לא מדברים בטלפון. לשם כך יש להם חדרים מיוחדים, כל אחד מעוצב בסגנון אחר. גם חדרי הישיבות לא שגרתיים - אחד מעוצב בתור חללית ואחר בתור סלון של סבתא. באיזור שבו יושבים לאכול יש קיר צמחיה גדול ומקסים.

A few days ago I boarded the plane with my sister, Anat (who's in charge of Int'l sales & marketing and the connections with Etsy) and with Ela, my 14-year old niece who came to help and have fun, and we landed in NY. 

The day before the event was dedicated to meetings and prep-work. We arrived at the Etsy offices in DUMBO, Brooklyn, and yes - they look exactly as you would imagine them. The front desk at the entrance is actually a piece of art made of recycled materials. The ventilation pipes are covered with colorful hand- knitted yarn. In every corner you can find works of art, wall murals, quilted pieces and more. The employees work in one big open-space, but the quiet and relaxed atmosphere is kept since they don't speak on the phone. For that they have special rooms, each designed in a different style. The meeting rooms are not standard either - one is designed like a spaceship and the other as grandma's living room. The dining area is decorated with a beautiful large wall full of plants.  

אז אחרי שהתגברתי על הדחף לעזוב את כל מה שאני עושה היום ולעבור לעבוד שם, בכל תפקיד שרק יסכימו לתת לי, התחיל היום. פגשנו את קבוצת היוצרים שהוזמנה להשתתף באירוע, כולם אנשים מקסימים ומוכשרים מתחומים שונים - יוצרים בעץ, מאייר, מעצבות אופנה, אמנית קרמיקה ועוד. היה מרגש במיוחד לשמוע איך כולם התחילו ולאן החנות שלהם באטסי הביאה אותם היום. פגשנו גם את הצוות של אטסי שארגן את האירוע וגם הם - בדיוק כפי שאתם מדמיינים. צעירים, מגניבים ובעיקר מקסימים ולבביים. לאורך כל היום קיבלנו יחס של אורחים מיוחדים ומכובדים והודו לנו מאוד על המאמץ שעשינו להגיע, למרות שאני הרגשתי אסירת תודה על כך שבכלל הוזמנתי.

So after I managed to control my urge to stop everything I do today and move to work there, in any job they would give me, the day started. We met the group of designers that were invited to participate in the event, all charming and talented people from different areas - wood designers, an illustrator, fashion designers, a ceramic artist and more. It was especially exciting to hear how they all started out and where their Etsy shop has brought them to today. we met the Etsy staff in charge of the event organization, and they too - exactly as you would imagine them - young, cool and especially friendly and warmhearted. Throughout the day we were received as special guests and were thanked for the efforts we had made to come, although I felt thankful for being invited at all. 

את יום המחרת התחלנו מוקדם בבוקר. הגענו לדוכן שכבר הוקם ע"י חברת ההפקה (את הבלונים הכתומים אי אפשר היה לפספס) וסידרנו את כל התכשיטים למכירה.

The next day we started off very early in the booth that had already been set up by the production company (you couldn't miss the orange balloons) and we set up all the jewelry for the sale. 

לקראת השעה 9 קראו לנו להכנס לבניין הנאסד"ק. בכניסה הוקרנו התמונות שלנו על גבי קיר מסך גדול. שתינו קפה ואז קראו לנו להכנס לאולפן. האולפן נראה כמו אולפן טלוויזיה, עם במה גדולה ורחבה, רק שהצד הקדמי שלו פתוח וצופה לטיימס סקוור. חילקו לנו פעמונים- בעבודת יד או פעמוני וינטג', שכולם נרכשו ממוכרים באטסי. אחרי נאום קצר של צ'אד דיקרסון מנכ"ל אטסי, עלינו כולנו על הבמה, יחד עם נציגי החברה וכשניתן האות - צילצלנו בפעמונים. יום המסחר נפתח!

Near 9am we were called to go into the Nasdaq building, In the entrance our profile photos were screened on the wall. We had coffee and were then called to go into the studio, which looks like a big TV studio, with a big wide podium overlooking Times Square. We were given bells - handmade or vintage, purchased from Etsy sellers. Following a short speech by Etsy CEO, Chad Dickerson, we all stepped onto the podium with Etsy representatives, and when the sign was given - we rang the bells. The new trade day had opened!

Since I was inside, I missed seeing the event on the huge screens in Times Square, but thankfully Anat was outside to take pictures. 

אחרי קבלת פנים וארוחת בוקר ירדתי חזרה לביתן שלנו בכיכר והבנות, יחד עם קייטי מאטסי שהצטרפה אלינו לעזור - כבר היו ממש עסוקות! לאורך כל שעות המכירה הביתן היה עמוס בבנות שמדדו וקנו תכשיטים. התגובות היו מדהימות. בנוסף, התרגשתי גם לפגוש כמה לקוחות קבועות מניו יורק שעד עכשיו הזמינו באטסי וזו היתה פעם ראשונה שאני פוגשת אותן פנים אל פנים.

After reception and breakfast I went outside back to our booth in the Square and the girls, along with Katie from Etsy that joined to help us, were already super-busy! Throughout the day the booth was filled with girls that stopped to try on and buy jewelry. The reactions were amazing. It was also so exciting for me to meet some of my loyal customers from NY that have been buying on Etsy and this was my first chance to meet them face-to-face.

The last 2 days were spent on shopping and touring the city, and we then headed home.

a few days have passed already, but the excitement from the event refuses to leave me. It's only now that I'm staring to grasp the meaning of the experience I've been through. I'm proud of Etsy and the success of the company, which proves that growth and development are only a chance to do more for the goals and values you believe in. I find this so inspiring. 

On top of that, I am grateful for the chance Etsy gave me to turn from a small designer selling from her living room to a growing and evolving company that sells across the globe. I am also thankful for my amazing customers, that have been with me through this stretch, and for my awesome staff, this wouldn't be possible without them. 

I mentioned to somebody that I am proud to be part of Etsy because it allows small creators to fulfill big dreams. In my case - these are dreams that I didn't even dare to dream.
