5 books you need on your shelf

אמנם אנחנו כבר רגילים לקרוא ולחפש השראה באינטרנט ובמדיות הדיגיטליות (שמתעדכנות לפני שאנחנו בכלל מספיקים למצמץ) אבל מבחינתי- אין תחליף לספרים אמיתיים (לא רק מתחום העיצוב), כאלה עם כריכה יפה וריח של דפוס. לאורך השנים, טיפחתי אוסף מכובד של ספרים, שנותנים לי השראה ועושים טוב על הנשמה. לרגל שבוע הספר, אשר חל בימים אלו, החלטתי להכיר לכם 5 ספרים שווים במיוחד.

Although we've gotten used to reading and searching for inspiration online and through digital media (that gets updated before we even blink), as far as I'm concerned, there's no substitute for real books. They don't have to be design books at all but they have to be real- with the smell of printing and stunning covers to look at. Through the years, I've collected beautiful books that have been inspiring me and do good for my soul. Book Week, which starts this week in Isarel, is a great opportunity to introduce you to five books you absolutely need on your bookshelf. 

A Beautiful Mess Happy Handmade Home

הספר של אלסי לארסון ואמה צ'פמן, מהבלוג האהוב "A Beautiful Mess", מהווה כניסה לעולמן הצבעוני והמעוצב של השתיים. אלסי ואמה הן אחיות, אשר שיפצו ועיצבו יחד את הבתים הראשונים שלהן, עם תקציב מוגבל אך עם הרבה דמיון ותעוזה. בספר הן מלמדות איך לשפץ, לצבוע ולקשט פרוייקטים שונים בבית והכל בכתיבה קולחת ואופטימית ובסגנון מודרני, בדיוק כמו בבלוג שלהן.

This book, written by Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman (from "A Beautiful Mess") is a peek into their colorful and designed worlds. Elsie and Emma are sisters, who renovated and designed their first homes together, with a small budget but with tons of imagination and a bit of spunk. In their book, they teach how to renovate, paint and decorate different projects, using their flowing and optimistic writing and a modern style, just the same vibe you can fins in their blog.

DIY Furniture 2

"DIY Furniture2" של כריסטופר סטוארט, ממשיך את הקו העיצובי של קודמו, אשר זכה להצלחה בינלאומית. הספר מכיל שלושים עיצובים חדשים והוא מסביר שלב-אחר-שלב איך לבנות בעצמך רהיטים בדרגות קושי שונות ובשלל סגנונות, מאובייקטים קונספטואליים לכאלה עם קו יותר מודרני ומובחן. הספר מציג את תהליך העבודה באמצעות דיאגרמות והסברים ברורים ומפנה את הקוראים להשתמש בחומרים נגישים, אשר ניתן למצוא בכל חנות מקומית לחומרי בנייה. ספר-הבנייה הזה, על שלל העיצובים שבתוכו, גרם לי לחשוב על חומרי עבודה בצורה אחרת ממה שחשבתי עד כה...

"DIY Furniture2" by Cristopher Stuart continues the design style of his predecessor, which gained international success. The book features 30 new designs and explains step-by-step how to build your own furniture in different levels of difficulty and in a variety of styles, from conceptual objects to modern (and more distinct) designs. The book demonstrates the construction process through diagrams and easy-to-follow instructions and uses available materials you can find at your local hardware store. This construction-book, with the variety of designs it offers, made me think differently about common materials and how to use them in a whole new way...

Joy created an abundant source of creative ideas and shows her readers how to add style, color and taste to their lives through quick, easy and fun projects, using her colorful, lively and unique aesthetics you can also find in her blog posts.

It's a deer dear (+ a fun giveaway)

מי מכם שמלווה אותי איזה זמן בוודאי כבר שם לב לחיבתי הרבה לאיילים. זאת חיה מקסימה ומיוחדת בעיני והקרניים שלה מוסיפות לה הרבה הוד והדר.

בעבר נהגו לפחלץ את ראשי האיילים אחרי הצייד ולתלות אותם בגאון במרכז הבית. בעיני זהו מנהג נוראי ואני נגד כל מה שפוגע באכזריות בבעלי חיים.

דווקא בגלל שהדבר האמיתי הוא לא בא בחשבון מבחינתי, אני מאוד שמחה שבשנים האחרונות צצים יותר ויותר ראשי איילים מחומרים תעשייתיים שיכולים לקשט את הבית.

זהו בהחלט טרנד רציני בעיצוב הבית בשנים האחרונות, אחד הטרנדים ששמחתי לאמץ.

אפשר למצוא את ראשי האיילים בהמון צבעים חומרים וצורות. גירסת התלת מימד מלאת נוכחות ותוסיף המון אופי לכל חלל שתיתלה בו.

Those of you who have been following me for a while must have noticed my thing for deer. It's a beautiful animal, with its antlers adding splendor and majesty.

In the past it was common to stuff the the deer head after it was hunted and to hang them proudly in the center of the house. I think this is a horrible thing, and I am against any act of cruelty towards animals. 

Since the "real thing" is not an option on my end, I'm really happy that in the past few years deer head made of industrial materials have become a trend in home decor, a trend I'm happy to join.

You can find a large variety of deer head in different shapes and forms. The 3-D version adds a strong presence and will add character to any room.

כמו תמיד אני אוהבת גם את הפרשנויות והעיצובים שמתרחקים מעט מהתרגום המדויק ושמציעים וריאציה לנושא עם קריצה. 

As always, I like those designs that offer a personal interpretation that moves away from the exact shape, offering a fresh variation of the topic, with a small wink.

The deer head has become a well identified  iconic shape and you can find it in 2-D versions in may places. A picture of a deer head on the wall can be as cool as its 3-D version.

הדבקתי את בן הזוג שלי בחיבה הזאת ואתם יכולים להיות בטוחים שיש לא מעט איילים אצלנו בבית.

My liking for deer has stuck to my spouse and you can be sure that there are quite a few deer elements in our home.

Two deer that decorate my home

מכיוון ששנינו אוהבים איילים הוחלט שזו תהיה החיה שתקשט את הזמנת החתונה שלנו (פוסט מיוחד הוקדש גם לעיצוב ההזמנה), והם הופיעו כאלמנט קישוטי גם בחתונה עצמה.

Since both of us like deer, we decided that this will be the animal to decorate our wedding invitations (I dedicated a separate post to the design of the invitation), and they played a role as decorative elements in the wedding itself.

לאחרונה אני אוהבת לשלב את ראש האייל גם בעיצוב החנויות שלי כך שרוב הסיכויים שתמצאו אותם גם שם אם תקפצו לביקור.

In the past couple of years I've enjoyed adding deer head in my shops' design, so most chances you'll find them there as well if you pass by for a visit.

אני בדר"כ אוהבת לאתר את ראשי האייל במקומות שונים ולתת להם טאץ' משל עצמי. את ראש האייל שבתמונה כאן למעלה קניתי בשוק הפשפשים וצבעתי, ואת אייל הקרטון שקניתי הביתה קישטתי בהרבה ניירות צבעוניים. אבל לא תמיד אני מוצאת בדיוק את מה שאני מחפשת ולכן החלטתי שלצורה הזאת אני רוצה לעצב גם ווריאציה משל עצמי.

מעכשיו אתם יכולים למצוא את קישוט ראש האייל שאני עיצבתי בחנויות שלי או באתר. כאן אפשר לראות אותו מעטר את הקיר המרכזי בחנות שלי בקניון רחובות.

I usually like to find deer heads in different places and to add in my personal touch. The deer head in the photo above was purchased in a flea market and then painted, and the cardboard deer that I purchased for my home was decorated using a bunch of colorful scrapbook paper. But I don't always manage to find exactly what I'm looking for, and that's why I decided that I want to design my own variation of a deer head.

כמובן שהייתי חייבת לעצב גם תכשיטים, זה הרי הדבר שאני הכי אוהבת לעשות, אז בסדרת טייני מופיע אייל גם על שרשרת וגם על צמיד וכך גם בסדרת מיאג'ימה, בהשראת כפר ביפן שבו מסתובבים איילים חופשיים.

I just had to design some deer jewelry, as that's what I mostly like to do. In my Tiny series you can find a deer on a necklace and a bracelet as well, and also in the Miyajima series, inspired by a Japanese village in which many deer stroll free.
