Trend Alert: Tropical Everything

אחת לכמה עונות מגיע טרנד כל כך לוהט, כל כך סוחף וכל כך נוכח שתמיד נדמה לי שעוד רגע בדיוק אף אחד לא יוכל לראות אותו יותר והוא יעלם מהעולם באותה פתאומיות שבה הגיע.
אבל...הוא דווקא מסרב להיעלם ובכל פעם, רגע לפני שאני מחליטה להתייחס אליו, אני שוב מרגישה שהנה עוד שנייה ממש זה נגמר.
ככה הרגשתי הרבה זמן עם הטרנד הטרופי. תאמינו או לא, וריאציות שלו נמצאות איתנו עוד מקיץ 2012 ועדיין, הוא כאן, משמח וקייצי מתמיד ואני לא יכולה להתעלם ממנו עוד.

Every few seasons comes a trend so hot, so sweeping and so present, that it always seems to me it'll be gone in a heartbeat and will disappear as suddenly as it came.

But ... it refuses to go away and every time, just before I decide to give it the proper attention, I always feel it'll be over in a moment.

For a long time, I've felt this way about the tropical trend. Believe it or not, variations of this trend stayed with us from the summer of 2012; Still, it's here- joyful and summery than ever, and I just can't ignore it anymore...

למרות שמטבעי אני בחורה של פסטלים, אני יודעת להעריך גם צבעים חזקים מפעם לפעם (במיוחד אם הם משתלבים נפלא יחד) ואוהבת מאוד את פלטת הצבעים של הטרנד הזה, שמורכבת מצבעים חזקים מאוד, הרבה ירוקים וורודים ומידי פעם גם נגיעות של צהוב.

The graphic elements that are featured in this trend, come from the worlds of Flora and Fauna. The giant palm leaves, the flamingos and tropical, summer fruits create unique designs, that make you want to lie on the sand and sip a cold, fruity cocktail.

Sometimes, it's fun to stand out in the crowd, step outside in bold colors and in a total tropical look and not care if everyone's staring at you. But in a everyday life, when dressing for work, I prefer to embrace trends in a rather gentle way, with a small accessory that gives a little twist to the entire look.

This is why I decided to go the opposite way and unlike the "Go Big!" version of this trend, and instead to address it in small portions and design the sweet Tiny necklaces & bracelets. You can wear them every day and they will bring you joy with every glance in the mirror.

My first Mother's Day

כאן בישראל, "יום האם" כבר מזמן הפך ל"יום המשפחה". אבל בעולם כולו, עדיין מקדישים יום אחד מיוחד לאמהות. כי בואו נודה בזה, עם כל הכבוד למשפחה כולה, לאמא מגיע יום מיוחד.

השנה גם אני חוגגת את יום האם בפעם הראשונה.
כבר הרבה זמן שאני מתכננת לקחת הפסקה קטנה ולספר לכן על השנה האחרונה בחיי, על לילי שלי ועל כל הדברים שלמדתי בזכותה.

Here in Israel, "Mother's Day" has turned into "Family's Day", but in the rest of the world, people still devote one special day for mothers. Because let's face it, with all due respect to family, mother deserves a special day of her own.

This year, I celebrate Mother's Day for the first time.

I've been planning for a while to take a little break to tell you about my past year's experience since giving birth to my Lily and about all the things I've learned from raising her.

למען האמת, אפילו שידעתי שהריון ואמהות ישפיעו משמעותית על הקריירה שטיפחתי בשנים האחרונות, די חיכיתי לשינוי. אחרי תקופה ארוכה שבה יצרתי, פיתחתי, הקמתי וגידלתי- והכל בפן המקצועי - הרגשתי שאני רוצה לטפח גם משהו משלי, משהו אישי. ידעתי שכניסתה של תינוקת לחיי תאלץ אותי להאט את הקצב, וחיכיתי לזה בציפייה.

Honestly, even though I knew that pregnancy and motherhood will have a significant impact on the career I've nourished in the last couple of years, I've actually been waiting for that change to happen. After a long period of time, in which I created, developed, founded and raised- all on the professional side - I felt I wanted to cultivate something of my own. I knew that having a baby enter my life will force me to slow down and I've waited for that expectantly.

למרות זאת, במהלך ההריון שמרתי על קצב החיים הדי מטורף שלי. המשכתי לעבוד הרבה שעות וניסיתי להספיק כמה שיותר עד הלידה. 

However, during pregnancy I kept my pretty hectic pace of life. I continued to work long hours, trying to get as many things done as possible until the baby comes.

לילי נולדה תוך חצי שעה מרגע שהגענו לבית החולים, בנסיעה בהולה ומלחיצה. אפילו שהכינו אותי לכך שלידות מהירות הן עניין שרץ אצלנו במשפחה, הקשבתי לרופאה ששלחה אותי הביתה עם צירים כמה שעות קודם לכן וכמעט לא הספקתי להגיע חזרה לבית החולים.

היא יצאה תינוקת יפיפיה ומתוקה, עם עיניים גדולות ומלאות הבעה, בדיוק כפי שדמיינתי אותה. 

Lily was born within a half hour after we got to the hospital, after an urgent and stressful drive. Even though I was prepared for the notion that speedy births run in our family, I listened to the doctor, who sent me home with contractions a few hours earlier and I almost didn't make it back to the hospital on time.

When she came out, I looked at this beautiful sweet baby, with large and expressive eyes, and I knew she looked just as I had imagined her to be.

לפני הלידה הייתי מאוד רגועה. חשבתי שכמו כל שאר הדברים, גם את המשימה הזו אתקתק ושעוד ישאר לי זמן וכוח לענות למיילים בין הנקה להחתלה.

אבל במציאות, החודשים הראשונים לא היו פשוטים, והצריכו ממני לקחת חופשת לידה אמיתית. התמסרתי ללילי כולי ונתתי לשתינו את הזמן שאנחנו צריכות להכיר אחת את השניה.

לשמחתי ולמזלי השארתי בעסק שלי אנשים מוכשרים שאני סומכת עליהם בעיניים עצומות והם דאגו שהכל ימשיך להתנהל כרגיל.

Before the birth, I was very relaxed. I thought this mission, like everything else in my life, would be a piece of cake and I'd still have time and energy to respond to e-mails between breastfeeding and diapering.

But in reality, the first months were not easy at all and required me to take a real maternity leave. I devoted myself completely to Lily and I gave both of us the time we needed to get to know each other.

Thankfully (and luckily), I left my business in the talented hands of people I trust with my eyes closed, and they made sure that everything will continue as usual.

לקושי של התקופה הזו התווסף מבצע צוק איתן ואיתו האזעקות ובעל שמגוייס למילואים. ארזנו את החפצים (וכך גיליתי - שככל שאתה יותר קטן, יש לך יותר ציוד) ונסענו לגלות אצל ההורים שלי באור עקיבא. גיליתי כמה נעים להתנתק ולנשום קצת אוויר אחר וגם כמה ההורים שלי מדהימים. ברוגע ובנתינה האין סופית שלהם הם הפכו את התקופה הזו לקלה הרבה יותר עבור כולנו.

Adding to the difficulty of this new period of my life, Israel was going through a military operation in Gaza and along came sirens and a husband who was recruited to service. We packed our things (and as I found out - the smaller you are, the more things you have!) and went on exile to my parents' house in Or Akiva. I discovered how pleasant it was to take a break and a deep breath in a different enviroment and most important, I discovered how amazing my parents are. With their calm and endless giving, they've made this period of time a much easier one for all of us.

לאחר זמן מה, חזרנו הביתה ובהדרגה חזרתי גם לעבודה. את הקולקציה האחרונה עיצבתי ברובה מהבית, כדי להישאר כמה שיותר בסביבת הקטנה. כך גיליתי, שאני לא חייבת לעבוד ימים ולילות כדי להוציא תוצאה טובה, ולפעמים כשיש לך מגבלה של זמן אתה רק הופך ליעיל וממוקד יותר. זו קולקציה שאני גאה בה במיוחד.

After a while, we went back home and gradually, I went back to work too. My last collection was designed mostly from home, so I could stay as much as possible near my little one. I realized that I don't have to work days and nights to get a good result and that sometimes, when you have a limited time, you become more focused and effective. It is a collection I'm particularly proud of her.

בהמשך חזרתי גם לעבודה שוטפת בסטודיו, תוך שאני מקפידה להשאיר יום בשבוע שבו אני רק שלה.

שמחתי לחזור לעבודה, אני הרי אוהבת מאוד את מה שאני עושה, אבל גם חיכיתי מאוד לימים של לילי ושלי, בהם הקפדתי לבלות איתה ולתת לה את כל תשומת הלב שלי, בלי עבודה ובלי הסחות דעת.

Further on, I returned to work in the studio, while I make sure to leave one day a week that is solely dedicated to Lily. 

I was glad to get back to work- I love what I do for a living, but I also found myself waiting for my days with Lily, which I spend only with her and give her all my attention, without any job issues or any other distractions.

יש לי הרבה מזל, הסטודיו שלי קרוב מאוד לבית שלנו ובלילי מטפלות כרגע הסבתות שלה כך שהרבה פעמים מפתיעים אותי בביקורים קצרים בעבודה וחיוך אחד של הקטנה הזאת באמצע היום טוען אותי לגמרי באנרגיות חדשות.

Luckily, my studio is very close to our house and Lily's grandmothers are currently caring for her, so I often get surprise visits in the studio, and one smile from this little one charges me with loads of new energies.

בניגוד למה שקרה בעבר, אז ימי העבודה שלי התארכו בלי גבול, היום אני זונחת את הכל אחה"צ ויוצאת לבלות עם לילי. גיליתי, שתל אביב הרבה יותר יפה באור יום. שיש בה הרבה פארקים, גינות, כלבים חמודים ואנשים שכיף להכיר. בעיקר, גיליתי שאפשר לשחרר. שמותר וכדאי להיעזר ולסמוך על אחרים. שלא תמיד הכל חייב להיות מושלם ושגם "טוב" זה לפעמים מצויין.

Unlike in the past, when my work days lengthened without limits, today I abandon everything in the afternoon hours and go outside to hang out with Lily. I found out that Tel Aviv is much more beautiful in daylight. The city has many parks, gardens, cute dogs and great people, all are fun to get to know. Mainly, I discovered that it's possible to let go. That I can, and should, allow myself to trust others. That not everything must be perfect all the time and that "good" it is sometimes excellent.

זה החדר של לילי. בימים אלה אנחנו עוברים לבית חדש ואני שוקדת על עיצוב החדר החדש שלה ומקווה שאוכל להראות לכם אותו בקרוב.

This is Lily's room. These days we are moving into a new house and I am working on designing her new room. I hope I can show it to you soon.

Behind the scenes

לפני כמה שבועות נפגשתי עם הצלמת טלי דברת, חברה שלי ולקוחה שלי מזה הרבה שנים, לכמה שעות צילום מיוחדות שאת תוצאותיהן תראו בקרוב.
באותה הזדמנות קפצה טלי לביקור גם בסטודיו שלי וצילמה אותי בביתי השני. בזכות הביקור אני יכולה להזמין אתכן להצצה קטנה אל מאחורי הקלעים.

A few weeks ago, I met with photographer Tali Dovrat, a friend and longtime customer, for a few hours of a special photoshoot, which you'll soon see the results of.

While we were at it, Tali stopped by to visit my studio and took pictures of me in my second home. Thanks to her visit, I can invite you to a sneak peek behind the scenes.

זה המשרד שלי. כאן אני מבלה את רוב שעות היום ולכן היה לי חשוב מאוד לבחור משרד מואר ומרווח שיהיה לי נעים להיות בו.

בחרתי ברהיטים לבנים כך שהמראה הכללי שלו נקי ומה שמוסיף את האופי למשרד היא הרצפה המצוירת ששבתה אותי מהרגע הראשון.

This is my office. Here I spend most of my day, so it was very important for me to choose a bright and spacious office I'd feel comfortable in.

I chose white furniture so the overall look is clean and what adds to its character is the painted tile floor, which captivated me from the very first moment.

מי מכן שמלווה אותי כבר כמה שנים יודעת שהסטודיו הראשון שלי ברחוב גרוזנברג היה כולו בערך בגודל המשרד שלי היום, וגם אז, בכל בוקר שבו הגעתי לסטודיו הרגשתי ברת מזל.

Those of you who have been following me for the past several years probably know that my first studio on Gruzenberg St. was about the size of my present office, and even then, every morning when I arrived to the studio, I felt very lucky.

עם השנים העסק שלי גדל והתפתח בזכותכן - הלקוחות שלי, שמלוות אותי ונאמנות לעיצובים שלי כבר זמן רב. 

ככל שהעסק גדל, גדל גם הצוות שלי והסטודיו ברחוב גרוזנברג הפך להיות קטן מידי. מגרוזנברג עברנו לרחוב הלל הזקן, לחלל גדול ומרווח שכלל גם חנות קטנה. כשהסטודיו הזה החל להיות צפוף כבר היה לי קשה להאמין.

אבל, המציאות מכתיבה את התנאים ואנחנו יצאנו לחפש סטודיו חדש ומרווח עוד יותר.

הפעם התמזל מזלנו באמת. הצלחנו למצוא דירה ישנה וענקית שבדיוק שופצה תוך הקפדה על שמירת אופיה הישן. 

ברגע שנכנסתי אליה ידעתי שיש לנו סטודיו חדש.

Over the years, my business has grown and developed thanks to you - my customers, who have been loyal to my designs for a long time.

As the business grew, my staff has expended and the studio in Gruzenberg St. became too small for us. We moved from Gruzenberg to Hillel Hazaken St., to a large space which included a small shop. When that studio became crowded, it was hard for me to believe; But reality sets the conditions and we set out to search for a new and more spacious studio. This time we were truly lucky. We found an old apartment, which was huge and had just been renovated while the owner maintained the original character of the place. Once I stepped into that space, I knew we had ourseleves a new studio.

בחלל המרכזי של הסטודיו נמצאת מחלקת הייצור. כאן הופכים חומרי הגלם המגוונים לתכשיטים עדינים בידיהן המיומנות של בנות הצוות שלי.

The main area of the studio is the manufacturing department. This is where raw materials turn into delicate jewelry, in the skilled hands of my staff members.

המטבח שלנו ממשיך את חלל הסטודיו. אנחנו משתמשים בו בעיקר לאכילה אבל מידי פעם תוכלו למצוא שולחן עמוס בתכשיטים ולא במטעמים. זה קורה בעיקר כשמישהו מרגיש שצפוף לו קצת.

Our kitchen area continues the studio space. We use it mainly for eating but occasionally you will find the kitchen table packed with jewelry pieces instead of delicacies. This usually happens when one of the staff feels the studio is a bit crowded.

מהמרפסת הקטנה שלנו אפשר לראות את ההתרחשות הסואנת של מרכז ת"א. יש מי שמעדיף שקט ואוויר נקי אבל אני דווקא מאושרת מאוד להיות במרכז ההתרחשות האורבנית של העיר המגניבה הזאת.

The view from our little baclony is the busy scene of central Tel Aviv. Some people prefer a more quiet area with fresh air, but I'm actually very happy to be in the center of the urban scene this cool city has to offer.

בין הסטודיו לבין המשרד שלי נמצא החדר של מחלקת השיווק. שם יושבת חבורה של בנות מול מסכי מחשב ועוזרת לי לחדש לכן ולהראות לכן יום יום את כל מה שאנחנו עושים.

Between the studio and my office is the marketing department space. There you'll find a group of girls, sitting in front of their computers, helping me every day of the week to show you what we do.

בימים אלה בעלי ואני עומלים על שיפוץ של דירה חדשה עבורנו במרחק של כמה דקות הליכה מהסטודיו (כמובן שתזכו לראות כאן בבלוג את תהליך השיפוץ ותוצאותיו). לא הייתי בטוחה כל חיי שאגור תמיד במרכזה של ת"א, אבל החיים התפתחו כך ואני מאושרת לחיות ולעבוד במרכז העיר הזאת שמעוררת בי השראה בכל יום.

These days, my husband and I have been renovating our new apartment, just a few minutes walk from the studio (you'll of course get to see, here on the blog, the renovation process and the results). I wasn't always sure I'd live in the center of Tel Aviv, but life evolved in this direction and I'm happy to be living and working in the center of the city that inspires me daily.
